Govt prepares energy efficiency projects worth 211 mln euro, says minister

Minister of Construction and Physical Planning Lovro Kuscevic on Monday announced several energy efficiency projects, including a HRK 170 million project for the energy upgrading of the Split General Hospital.

He added that the government had prepared energy efficiency projects for public sector buildings for the period 2016-2020 that would be included on the agenda of the first session of the new government after the September 11 election.

"The programme envisages the absorption of 211 million euro from European Union funds and when we add national funding, investments over the next four years will amount to almost 500 million euro," Kuscevic said.

He announced the completion of energy efficiency programmes for residential buildings envisaging investments of 100 million euro, of which 70 million will be earmarked for residential buildings and 30 million for private houses.

He added that 1,168 socially-subsidised flats were being built around the country.

Considering that there is a number of such flats that have been built but have not been sold, a law on subsidising interest on housing loans is being prepared in an effort to boost the sale of those flats, he said.

That bill will be included on the agenda of the first government meeting and then sent to parliament for consideration, he said.
