Gov't to secure more money for student transport

The government submitted an amendment to the 2016 budget proposal on Tuesday, suggesting reallocation of 32 million kuna for public commuter transport for secondary school students.

The amendment proposes reduction of the Ministry of Finance budget by HRK 22 million, including HRK 10 million in aid to religious communities, and reallocation of HRK 10 million from the Science, Education and Sport Ministry budget intended for capital investments in primary and tertiary education.

The total amount of HRK 32 million will be reallocated for the purposes of public commuter transport for secondary school students within the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, the government decided via conference call.

The initial proposal in the draft budget sparked public dissatisfaction and sharp criticism from opposition parties.
