HDZ chief says party is launching no-confidence vote in PM

First Deputy Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko said on Tuesday that the HDZ would file a motion for a vote of no-confidence in Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic, who took office as a non-partisan premier at the helm of the cabinet consisting of the HDZ-led Patriotic Coalition and the Bridge reformist party in late January.

"This government is dysfunctional," said Karamarko, while citing reasons why the HDZ would vote no confidence in the current government.

Karamarko said that the HDZ "does not want to be a clown in this bad story."

The HDZ chief whose relations with PM Oreskovic and the other Deputy PM Bozo Petrov have become strained over a scandal caused by business relations between his wife, Ana Karamarko, and his friend Josip Petrovic, a MOL lobbyist, explained the HDZ position on Oreskovic's impeachment at a news conference which started shortly before 1100 hrs Tuesday.

Karamarko believes that the procedure of no-confidence vote would be "a positive shock" adding that "the interests of the state and nation should be above private and partisan interests."

The HDZ chief called on political stakeholders "to get serious," or this would not end well.

"Some time has been lost, but there is still enough time for a government reshuffle," Karamarko said.
