HDZ chooses its 3 members for Parliament Deputy Speakers

The Prime Minister-designate and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader, Andrej Plenkovic, told reporters on Thursday that the HDZ candidates for three out of the five Deputy Parliament Speakers would be HDZ Deputy President Milijan Brkic, the party's secretary-general, Gordan Jandrokovic, and HDZ official Zeljko Reiner, who is the outgoing Sabor Speaker.

Recently, the HDZ and the Bridge party, which will form the new government, agreed that Bridge leader Bozo Petrov would be the Parliament Speaker.

Two posts of Deputy Parliament Speakers are usually designated to Opposition representatives, and on Wednesday, officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who held talks with the HDZ on the allotment of posts of chairpersons of 29 parliamentary committees, declined to say who would be the Sabor's deputy speakers from the Opposition ranks.

As many as 16 parliamentary committees will be chaired by the ruling majority, 12 will be chaired by the Opposition, and the committee on human and minority rights will be chaired, as usual, by one of the eight elected deputies of ethnic minorities.

The ninth 151-seat parliament will hold its inaugural session on Friday.
