HDZ leader expects progress in talks with Bridge

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic has said that he expects progress in the negotiations with the Bridge reformist party, and the third round of the talks between the two parties on forming Croatia's new government is set for Monday afternoon.

On Monday morning, Plenkovic said in a brief answer to reporters that he expected progress.

Last Friday, Plenkovic said the negotiations on forming a new government would be successfully completed within constitutional deadlines that would start running on Monday upon the announcement of the final and completed results of the September 11 early parliamentary election.

"With 61 seats in parliament we are a convincing relative winner of the parliamentary election and we have several other deputies in parliament ready to support us. The more stable the parliamentary majority, the more stable and efficient the government," he said then. The Bridge party won 13 seats in the 151-seat ninth legislature.

Asked by the press about the allocation of ministries between the partners in the next cabinet, HDZ Secretary-General Gordan Jandrokovic said on Monday morning that there had been no talk on who might fulfil the ministerial posts.

We are still discussing Bridge's seven items for the platform for cooperation, he added.
