HDZ leader says Patriotic Coalition, MOST to discuss entrepreneurship, judiciary Tuesday

Tomislav Karamarko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), which leads the Patriotic Coalition, said that his coalition on Monday morning received from the reformist Bridge (MOST) party a proposal for the continuation of negotiations on the formation of a new government between expert groups, adding that talks on entrepreneurship and the judiciary would start on Tuesday.

"We received the proposal for the continuation of negotiations this morning. More specifically, we will be discussing entrepreneurship and the judiciary tomorrow. We support such an approach because the HDZ wants to affirm in those talks its platform for real changes. We have been preparing for this for three years. I consider such an approach to be fair both to the public and to Bridge, but primarily to our experts and people who have worked on these reforms," Karamarko told reporters outside the HDZ offices.

Asked if there had been informal meetings between him and Bridge, he said that the HDZ was negotiating with Bridge exclusively officially.

Asked if the Patriotic Coalition had more than the 59 seats it had won in the November 8 parliamentary election, the HDZ chief said that "things are moving in that direction" and that he was satisfied.

When asked on the support of how many Bridge members the HDZ was counting, Karamarko said that Bridge's election result was respectable. "I don't want to discuss things that way. Let them be homogenous and ready for changes and reforms as they say they are. We have answers to everything they are asking for because I believe that we want the same thing," said Karamarko.

Asked to comment on reports that Bridge had given up on its proposal for a government of national unity, Karamarko said that that remained to be clarified.

He said that such a change would be good because by insisting on a government of national unity Bridge "could possibly put itself in a contradictory situation, insisting to sit at the same table with those who have brought our economy to the brink of an abyss." "The more so as the HDZ and Bridge want reforms and changes."
