HDZ leaders visit Osijek, Sisak on whistle-stop tour

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)-led government will make a thorough effort to facilitate progress of Slavonia, and will endeavour to enable Croatia to have an economic growth of 5% by 2020, the HDZ leader Andrej Plenkovic said in the eastern city of Osijek where he stopped on the campaign trail in the run-up to an early parliamentary election set for 11 September.

He also promised that the HDZ-led government would raise the employment rate from the current 60% to 68%.

Plenkovic announced the adoption of new legislation on farmland and family-run farms as well as benefits that will facilitate young people's efforts to start up their farms.

The HDZ chief announced some measures to help increase youth employment rates and halt emigration from Croatia, such as a five-year contribution exemption for employers who employ those under 35 and loan schemes for small business run by young entrepreneurs.

Miroslav Tudjman, an HDZ candidate from the constituency that includes Osijek, announced that he would put forward the motion for new homeland security legislation, as he believes that the current system cannot respond to the present-day challenges such as terrorism and cyber crime.

HDZ official Goran Maric on Monday visited the city of Sisak where he stated that his party would not allow the closing of the local oil refinery.
