HDZ: Milanovic trying to stay in power to prevent investigations

Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic is trying to maintain his grip on power through clandestine talks and blackmail to prevent investigations into numerous illegal activities, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party said in a statement on Friday evening, urging prosecutors to take action.

Milanovic first attempted to cause in a rift in the Bridge party by organising secret talks under cover of night, then he blackmailed, through middlemen, members of ethnic minorities to secure a new term in office for him, and now he is trying to trade the position of Parliament Speaker for his own account, the statement said.

Milanovic is trying, at any cost and using all means available, to hold power so that he can prevent investigations into numerous illegal activities at the State Property Management Office, suspicious payments made by the Croatian Health Insurance Fund, abuse of the Police Office for Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime, the involvement of his brother in illegal activities with state institutions, and other criminal activities of his government. We call on the State Prosecutor's Office and anti-corruption prosecutors to investigate all these cases based on negative reports by state auditors and to protect the property owned by all Croatian citizens, the statement said.
