HDZ ministers on reports on party's loan from private company

Transport and Infrastructure Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) vice-president Oleg Butkovic said on Wednesday that he had asked the party bodies to provide him with information about a loan the HDZ had taken from a private company and was now in arrears and he believes that this matter will be discussed at the party's presidency set for Monday.

In 2014 and 2015, the HDZ took a loan from the Gas Trading d.o.o. established by the "Prvo Plinarsko Drustvo", a company whose main lines of business are import, sale, supply and distribution of natural gas. The company is owned by Pavao Vujnovac who has recently publicly accused the HDZ of being late in repaying the loan.

"I will receive all information about this at the presidency meeting on Monday," Butkovic said on Wednesday while coming to the government building for the cabinet meeting.

Asked about this topic by reporters outside the government building, Health Minister Dario Nakic, who is an HDZ official, said that politicians should not comment on matters they were not familiar with. He admitted that he did not know the details of the borrowing.

Asked whether the issue of the loan might affect the HDZ rating in the run-up to the snap parliamentary election, Nakic answered that he did not know and that it should be first established if there was any contentious concerning this case.

Defence Minister Josip Buljevic of the HDZ declined to elaborate on the case, explaining that he had no information about the loan.
