Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) Secretary-General Gordan Jandrokovic said on Sunday evening that the exit polls showed that the major blocs were level-pegging in the early parliamentary election.
According to exit polls, the Social Democratic Party (SDP)-led People's Coalition is set to win 57 seats in the 151-seat parliament and the HDZ 57 seats. The Bridge party came third with 12 seats.
Jandrokovic was also cautious in his comment, adding that one should wait for the preliminary results.
The State Electoral Commission (DIP) is expected to release the preliminary results at about 2200 hours.
Jandrokovic seems satisfied with the fact that his party was likely to win more seats in the 9th legislature than it had in the previous one when it ran in the Patriotic Coalition.
The HDZ officials, who gathered in the party's headquarters waiting for the announcement of the outcome of Sunday's snap vote, hope that the new HDZ leader Andrej Plenkovic will be the new prime minister.
