HDZ official says Petrov should dedicate himself more to work in gov't

The Secretary-General of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Milijan Brkic, has commented on Deputy Prime Minister Bozo Petrov's statement that his Bridge party will opt for an early election if things do not start to change, saying that Petrov should dedicate himself more to work in the government.

Bridge did not get absolute confidence from voters, they only have 15 seats in the parliament, while the HDZ and its coalition partners have 59. "They act as if the situation were the other way around and lecture us all with a dose of irritating condescension," Brkic said in an interview with the Vecernji List daily of Wednesday.

As for his relationship with HDZ leader Tomislav Karamarko, Brkic said that Karamarko enjoyed his support and would continue enjoying it, as well as that he was confident that Karamarko was not in a conflict of interest but was rather a target of cheap propaganda.

Karamarko has not taken part in any decision-making on INA nor has the government officially discussed the arbitration (in the INA-MOL dispute), Brkic recalled, describing his relationship with Karamarko as friendly and noting that reports about it having deteriorated were spread by people wishing to cause harm to the HDZ.

Asked if he was disappointed that Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic did not side with the HDZ in the case of former Security-Intelligence Agency chief Dragan Lozancic or support the party's requests for personnel changes in the Ministry of the Interior, Brkic said he had expected the PM to focus more on economy and investments, the areas in which he was competent and that earned him the HDZ's trust.

I hope Tihomir Oreskovic will show more respect for the positions of the party that holds the key to the majority in the parliament that elected him, Brkic said in the interview, among other things.
