The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) said on Friday that some of the measures announced by Prime Minister-designate Tihomir Oreskovic had also been in the focus of the previous governments, but few had been implemented.
"Some of the measures announced, such as improving the efficiency of the public sector, increasing competitiveness, encouraging investment, absorbing EU funding, investment in energy and infrastructure, have also been in the focus of the previous governments, but unfortunately not much has been implemented. These are unavoidable measures that we need to implement as soon and as effectively as possible, especially with a view to improving public-sector performance, the business environment and competitiveness. It is essential to encourage private-sector investment in production that will increase employment and exports and to improve the capacity to absorb EU funding, which at the moment is almost the only source of financing for public investment," the head of the HGK Department for Financial Institutions, Business Information and Economic Analyses, Zvonimir Savic, said in a comment.
Oreskovic said on Friday that his government would focus on reducing the public debt and deficit, increasing public-sector performance, strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy and investment, reviving dormant state capital, and reforming the health sector.
