Highest number of refugees enter Slovenia

The highest number of refugees so far, 12,600, came to the Croatian-Slovenian border over the night and on Thursday morning, while the number of those leaving Slovenian refugee centres for Austria is smaller than the number of those arriving in them, Slovenian media said, citing police.

It is estimated that 2,000-3,000 people have crossed or are crossing the green border near the Harmica-Rigonci crossing, which is closed for traffic. Slovenian police said they were not notified about the arrival of the so far largest group of refugees to the green border.

The high number of migrants is disrupting rail and road traffic, Novo Mesto police said. Rail traffic between Slovenia and Hungary remains suspended.

Slovenian media said Austrian reception facilities near the Slovenian border were nearly full but that Austria said it would increase capacity. Austria is continuing to receive migrants from Slovenia until further notice.

Most migrants who enter Slovenia from Croatia are taken by train and bus to Sentilj near the Austrian border, where there were 1,800 refugees this morning.

The biggest refugee centre in Styria, Austria is overcrowded with more than 2,000 people, so two new tents will be set up and new reception centres are expected to be opened because the flow of migrants from Slovenia is not diminishing, said Maribor's Vecer daily.
