HNB ordered to answer questions about CHF loan conversion

The Franak association of holders of loans denominated in the Swiss franc on Monday made public the ruling by Information Commissioner Anamarija Musa ordering the Croatian National Bank (HNB) to answer the association's questions regarding the conversion of CHF loans.

Franak asked the central bank if it had identified any irregularities in the conversion process and if so which, and if it had taken any action. In February, the HNB refused to answer their questions citing data confidentiality.

The information commissioner ordered the HNB to provide Franak with the requested information, citing the Right to Access Information Act and saying that the public has the right to know what irregularities were identified and that the public interest prevails over possible damage to the interests of the banking system, banks and depositors.

The HNB was given eight days to provide the requested information and cannot appeal the ruling.
