HND accuses committee of ignoring request for Novi List debate

The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) on Thursday criticised the chair of the parliamentary media committee, Andrija Mikulic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), for ignoring the association's request for a discussion on the suspicious sale of the Rijeka-based Novi List newspaper.

The agenda of the committee's session, set for Friday, 10 June, does not include any topic about the sale of the Novi List newspaper, despite the fact that the HND filed a motion for this discussion two months ago.

The association recalls that on 3 April, it called on relevant agencies and authorities to investigate the "non-transparent" sale of Novi List, and on 5 April it forwarded this proposal to the said committee.

HND president Sasa Lekovic recalls that the ownership structure of Novi List includes a foreign financial fund, which is why it is important to make sure that the entire procedure is transparent.

Without accurate and full data on the owners, it is impossible to carry out the procedure of checking the acceptability of a possible concentration of the publisher, Lekovic recalls.
