HNS condemns setting up tent in Srb

The Croatian People's Party (HNS) said on Wednesday that setting up a tent next to the monument in Srb was unbelievable adding that "in the 21st century, when divisions and intimidation should have been behind us, the HNS believes it is entirely unacceptable to have shady Ustasha and pro-fascist groups try to prevent the marking of an anti-fascist uprising which took place on 27 July 1941 in Srb."

"Intolerance, hate speech, aggressive behaviour of the followers of radical and pro-Ustasha right-wing politics, the denial of the historic role and importance of Croatia's anti-fascist movement, threats to minorities and nongovernmental organisations promoting civil society values, which we unfortunately have been witnessing over the past six months, must not have open or tacit support of state institutions and the state leadership," the party said in a press release.

It is the duty of most responsible political stakeholders to prevent and condemn in the strongest terms such occurrences and not take part in attempts to downplay their fatal consequences, the party says.

"The entire country must and can stand up to defend civilisational achievements of the 21st century. We hope those responsible will react so as to put the legacy of fear and darkness where it belongs -- far back in the past," the HNS said in a statement issued following the raising of a tent by the Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights (A-HSP) , next to a monument in that village, with the aim of preventing the marking of Anti-Fascist Uprising Day (July 27).
