HRK 21.3 mn invested in Vukovar business innovation centre

A ceremony was held in Vukovar on Thursday to mark the completion of the Business Innovation Centre (BIC) project valued HRK 21.3 million.

Most of the HRK 21.3 million was funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund (HRK 18 million) and the remainder from the Vukovar Reconstruction and Development Fund.

Vukovar Mayor Ivan Penava said that companies had been invited to occupy the production halls, noting that only environmentally-friendly companies would be accepted.

BIC spreads over 8,000 square metres of production halls.  It has 11 business premises intended for small and medium-sized businesses with another 15 smaller premises intended for smaller innovative companies, as well as an education training centre and conference hall.

"Over the past two years, despite the recession, we've changed Vukovar's business story. We've turned trends around and now have 319 new jobs in production," Penava said, adding that BIC was yet another step in making Vukovar an industrial centre.

Outgoing Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Tomislav Tolusic commended this and other projects prepared in Vukovar.

"By the end of the year, we expect a decision to equip and modernise the Vukovar hospital, a project valued at HRK 50 million with an additional HRK 24 million euro from European funds for reconstruction and development in the town as well as the possible reconstruction of the student dorm valued at HRK 20 million," Tolusic said, adding that these were just the projects about to be realised.
