HSP AS ends cooperation with HDZ, threatens with 'discharge letters' to those who disobey

The secretary general of the Croatian Party of Rights Ante Starcevic (HSP AS), Pero Coric, said on Tuesday that his party was ending cooperation with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in local and regional self-government units, saying that all HSP AS members who disobey this decision would be handed "a letter of discharge."

"As of today, the HSP AS is breaking off all ties with this HDZ, just as Croatia had broken off all ties with the former Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. We are breaking off all ties in all cities, municipalities in which we had been cooperating with the HDZ -- 12 counties and the City of Zagreb," Coric told Hina in a telephone interview, stressing that HSP AS officials who disobey this decision would bet "a letter of discharge" and could join the HDZ.

Underscoring that the HSP AS had never changed its positions and it will not change them this time either, Coric said the party presidency decided last evening  it was unacceptable for the party to form partial cooperation in constituencies and not sign an agreement on permanent political cooperation.

HDZ chief Andrej Plenkovic said on Monday that the party would run independently in the September parliamentary election, adding that with some partners cooperation would be formed in individual constituencies. The HSP AS was the only partner that insisted on a national-level coalition. However, HDZ's party bodies have agreed to a different approach, Plenkovic said on Monday.
