Ivan Kovacic resigns as head of Bridge club of MPs

The mayor of Omis, Ivan Kovacic, is no longer the head of the Bridge party club of deputies in the national parliament, Bridge confirmed to Hina on Thursday. No information was available on who would succeed Kovacic in that post.

The Slobodna Dalmacija daily reported that Kovacic resigned from his post this morning.

"On Monday I made public my decision to terminate my cooperation with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). I believe that it is clear to everyone that having made that, I can no longer represent any other member of Parliament but myself. Which means that I can no longer be the chair of the Bridge club of deputies. Nobody has the right, including me, to make others topple the government. And another thing - please do not speculate that I made this in agreement with someone or that this is someone's spin," Kovacic told the daily.

Asked by reporters in the parliament today if Kovacic was still the chair of the Bridge club of deputies, Bridge leader Bozo Petrov did not give a straightforward answer, saying only: "I am greeting Mr Kovacic, he remains Bridge's staunch ally."

Kovacic recently expressed outrage by the election of HDZ member Ivan Skaricic as the head of the HDZ branch in Omis, saying that it prompted him to terminate cooperation with the HDZ on the national level.
