Ivana Maletic appointed Erasmus ambassador for young entrepreneurs in Croatia

Croatian member of the European Parliament Ivana Maletic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) this past week became Erasmus Ambassador for young entrepreneurs in Croatia, her office reported.

At a working meeting on the topic "Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs", held this past Monday, Maletic said that youth unemployment was a burning problem in Croatia and called for defining activities and measures adapted to the needs of young people.

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange programme which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other participating countries.

"My goal is to help strengthen partnership at the national level, disseminate information and encourage young people to join in the process of defining European and national policies," Maletic said at the meeting.

She regularly organises conferences and round table discussions for young people to acquaint them with EU policies and possibilities the EU offers to young people.

The exchange of experience takes place during a stay with the experienced entrepreneur, which helps the new entrepreneur acquire the skills needed to run a small firm.

The host benefits from fresh perspectives on his/her business and gets the opportunities to cooperate with foreign partners or learn about new markets.

The stay is partially funded by the European Union.

Since the launch of the programme in 2009, close to 8,000 entrepreneurs (experienced and aspiring ones) have participated in 4,000 exchanges.

The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) has participated in the programme with its partners from Europe since 2012. The HGK is the main local contact point for the duration of the programme. Its role is to provide business support to beginner entrepreneurs and experienced entrepreneurs from participating countries in business networking and in finding partners.
