Karamarko intends to accelerate restitution of Jewish property

First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko said on Monday he would accelerate the restitution of Jewish property confiscated during the Second World War, a government press release said.

Karamarko met in Zagreb on Monday with US Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Nicholas Dean and a delegation of the World Jewish Restitution Organisation. They discussed unresolved issues concerning the restitution of Jewish property and other issues of importance to the Jewish community in Croatia.

"It has been concluded that the pace of dealing with these problems with previous Croatian governments was too slow," the press release said.

Karamarko said that his intention was "to considerably accelerate the resolution of all the issues."
