Karamarko makes submission to Conflict of Interest Commission, wife submits necessary documents

The chairperson of the parliamentary Conflict of Interest Commission, Dalija Oreskovic, confirmed on Mondey to the media that First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) had made a submission to the commission and that extensive documentation had been received from the Drimia company, owned by his wife, concerning business relations between Drimia and the Peritus Savjetovanja company.

In a statement for the N1 television, Oreskovic said that the commission still expected to receive documentation from Peritus Savjetovanja, owned by Josip Petrovic, a lobbyist for the Hungarian oil company MOL, and that therefore the case was still not ready for discussion.

"Once all documents are submitted, the Commission will inform the public of it and hold a public session," she said.

The government on Friday decided not to endorse a motion filed by the Opposition on a no-confidence vote in Karamarko over conflict of interest allegations, while government ministers appointed by Bridge, the HDZ's partner in the government, voted against the government's decision.

Bridge wants Karamarko to step down because of the business relationship between his wife and Petrovic, claiming that this is a conflict of interest situation. The Croatian government and MOL are currently involved in two arbitration proceedings over the management of the Croatian oil and gas company INA.
