Karamarko: Oreskovic's talks with ministerial candidates going well

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko said on Tuesday that Prime Minister-Designate Tihomir Oreskovic was continuing talks with ministerial candidates today and that the talks would not be held on Wednesday and Thursday because Oreskovic was to attend a forum in Kitzbuehel, Austria.

Karamarko told reporters that Oreskovic's attendance at the forum was recognition of the selection of the prime minister-designate. He said Oreskovic's talks with ministerial candidates were going well.

Commenting on a statement which Drazen Lalic, a professor at Zagreb's Faculty of Political Science and sociologist, made on Croatian Television, that he would be the most powerful person in the new government, Karamarko said, "What does power mean? I'd say responsibility. It is known who the central point in the government will be. That's certainly the prime minister, in this case, Prime Minister-Designate Oreskovic."

He said the most powerful would be those bringing results, namely the government as a whole, those working in the ministries and all those with the patience to tolerate all the measures due in the next year or two.

Asked about Serbia's plan to buy Russian missiles, Karamarko said Croatia wanted good relations and that it was better to invest in the economy and job creation than in weapons. He said he had no idea why Serbia was scared and upset and that it was necessary to build good relations with all states, including Serbia, regardless of the disputes between the two countries.
