Karamarko responds to Sanader's claims

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko said on Monday, responding to a question from the press, that when he was the interior minister in the Jadranka Kosor Cabinet, he attended meetings with then chief state attorney Mladen Bajic.

Presenting his defence in the Planinska case earlier today, former prime minister Ivo Sanader reiterated that he was a victim of political persecution initiated by Kosor and Bajic, saying they agreed on it at a meeting in the government that Karamarko attended.

"As interior minister, I was at many meetings both with the prime minister and chief state prosecutor Bajic. What's strange about that? It would have been bad if I hadn't been. If there were meetings that I wasn't at, that's very bad. The gentleman you are talking about is probably alluding to that," Karamarko said.

He added that at that time, everything was done by the law because "the then Interior Ministry was up to the task."
