Kovac dismisses speculation on HDZ factions

Caretaker Foreign Minister Miro Kovac of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said in New York on Wednesday that headlines on factions inside the HDZ were media fabrication, and added that everyone in the party was focused on negotiations with the Bridge party about forming a new government.

"The HDZ is currently focused on the negotiations with partners from the Bridge party about forming the new government which must be firm and stable", said Kovac who was was attending a session of the U.N. General Assembly.

In response to media claims about factions in the HDZ, Kovac countered that there was only one faction in the HDZ, the one advocating a better and more successful Croatia, led by Andrej Plenkovic. Kovac dismissed media headlines about divisions within the HDZ as fabrication and nonsense, saying he did not want to waste words on it.

Asked about commotion in the Opposition, Kovac said this was the result of the HDZ victory of the early parliamentary election held on 11 September.
