Kovac says won't be new ambassador to US

Caretaker Foreign Minister Miro Kovac on Tuesday refuted media reports that he would be Croatia's new ambassador to the US, saying he was staying in Croatia.

"What is being said in the media, that I will be the new ambassador in Washington, is not correct. I was elected to the Croatian parliament and will be in Croatia," he told reporters ahead of a session of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) at which party president and Prime Minister-Designate Andrej Plenkovic will present the ministers from the HDZ's ranks.

Kovac said he was pleased that the HDZ and Plenkovic would present their government in parliament tomorrow.
