Memorial plaque for Strossmayer unveiled in Prague

A memorial plaque for Croatian bishop, politicians and benefactor Josip Juraj Strosmayer has been unveiled in Prague, at the initiative of the Croatian-Czech Society from Zagreb.

The Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences reported on Sunday that the plaque was unveiled on Friday.

Strossmayer was known for promoting political and cultural cooperation between the Croat and the Czech  people.

He had worked with Czech politicians Frantisek Palacky and Frantisek Rieger on their common ideals of cultural and political association of the Slavic peoples. He was a supporter of the Austrian Habsburg Monarchy, but nevertheless strove to obtain more rights for the Slavs within the Monarchy.
