Milanovic: HDZ same as during Karamarko's era

Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic has said that the latest accusations from the rival Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) that the former SDP-led government "protected the state terrorism of former Yugoslav services that killed Croats worldwide", proved that the HDZ under Andrej Plenkovic did not manage to distance itself from the paradigm of Plenkovic's predecessor Tomislav Karamarko.

"Everything stayed the same, I am sorry, everything is the same," the SDP chief said in response to Plenkovic's accusations that the former SDP-led government that ran Croatia in the period from December 2011 to January 2016 "only three days before Croatia's admission to the EU wanted to betray the confidence of Croatia's partners and what the HDZ-led government had negotiated." Plenkovic in this context noted that the SDP-led government adopted "Lex Perkovic in order to protect the state terrorism of Yugoslav services that killed Croat emigrants across Europe and the rest of the world."

Milanovic today countered that he had expected more of "the so-called diplomats who are super-sensitive to each sentence we utter, while they ate ready to say something more extreme than Karamarko's rhetoric."

As for opinion polls showing a slight edge for the SDP-led coalition in the September 11 early parliamentary election, Milanovic said that those survey had been conducted last month.

The relevant results would be if the polls were conducted today, he told the press.
