Milanovic: Majority has right to sponsor whatever it wants, including Bleiburg commemoration

When asked about reports according to which the parliamentary presidency would on Thursday be deciding on restoring the parliament's sponsorship of the Bleiburg commemoration, which was withdrawn during the term of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)-led government, SDP chief and former PM Zoran Milanovic said that "the parliamentary majority has the right to sponsor whatever it wants."

"The parliament used to be the sponsor (of the commemoration) before, during the term of the parliamentary majority that included my government, the sponsorship was suspended because Bleiburg - and I stress here Bleiburg, not the victims killed after Bleiburg - has been a commemoration of the downfall of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), and hence we will not vote for that," said Milanovic.

Tezno, on the other hand, is something different. "I visited Tezno several times to pay respect to the victims, to people who were killed without trial. They should not have been killed even if they had been put on trial, but they were killed and were thrown in ditches. But that is Tezno, those who mourn those people go to Tezno and some other places, and those who feel sorry for Maks Luburic and Ante Pavelic go to Bleiburg. It's so clear, they were a group of criminals who came on trucks in 1941 and historically disgraced the Croatian people. They are not my people," Milanovic said.
