Polling stations for the election of the leader of Croatia's strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) closed at 6pm on Saturday and the vote count is under way.
Sources at the election headquarters of the incumbent leader Zoran Milanovic said unofficially that Milanovic was leading overwhelmingly at the national level, as well as in Zagreb where senior SDP officials Davor Bernardic and Rajko Ostojic supported his challenger, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County head Zlatko Komadina.
According to unofficial information, turnout in Rijeka, Komadina's stronghold, was unexpectedly low.
Preliminary results of the vote are to be announced at 9pm.
