MOST party euphoric after exit polls

An exit poll which showed that a network of independent slates which goes by the name "MOST" was set to win 18 seats in the 8th Croatian parliament was welcomed with tumultuous applause at their election headquarters in Zagreb on Sunday evening.

"We expected between 9 and 12 seats, this is fantastic. If this outcome is confirmed by final election results, it will mean that Most will be unavoidable in the next four years," said Ivan Lovrinovic, who headed the Most slate in Constituency No. 2.

According to exit polls, the Social Democratic Party (SDP)-led coalition "Croatia is Growing" won 56 seats and the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)-led "Patriotic Coalition" also won 56 seats in Sunday's parliamentary election, while Bridge was third with 18 seats.

Many were inclined to describe Most as a local project, but the exit polls showed the opposite. During the campaign tour of Croatia, we saw that people wanted change and that an increasing number of Croatians wanted a third option, and that is Most, which has combined integrity and the know-how, said Lovrinovic, an economics professor.

Voters see the SDP and the HDZ as the two sides of the same coin so they supported Bridge, he said.
