Motion for Deputy PM Karamarko's impeachment on parl. agenda

Parliament on Friday expanded its agenda of the current session to add 10 new agenda items including two interpellations submitted by opposition parties as well as an SDP motion for a vote of no confidence in First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

Social Democratic Party (SDP) MPs and Pensioners' Party MP Silvano Hrelja are seeking Karamarko's impeachment due to business relations between Karamarko's wife and MOL lobbyist Josip Petrovic "in circumstances that indicate the existence of serious connections of interest between physical and legal entities whose objectives and interests are in contravention of the interests of Croatia and its citizens."

Opposition MPs believe that this casts doubt on Karamarko being able to adopt objective decisions in the interest of Croatia and its citizens. Parliament has 30 days to decide on the motion for Karamarko's impeachment.

SDP's interpellation demands a response by the government to announcements by commercial banks that they intend to initiate arbitration proceedings against Croatia regarding the law on the conversion of loans pegged to the Swiss franc.

The other interpellation submitted by the Reformist party refers to regulating temporary contract work.

Parliament concluded this week's sitting with a voting session and lawmakers will gather again on 30 May for a ceremonial session of parliament on Croatian Parliament Day.
