MP: Parliament must be included in decisions on strategic property

MP Ivan Lovrinovic of the ruling Bridge party said on Friday that decisions on the sale of state property should be made by the Croatian parliament and not just by the government.

"I want to be as clear as possible: decisions on the sale of any property, especially strategic property, property of special interest, should be made by the Sabor and not just by the government. No more sales without asking Parliament first," Lovrinovic, an economics professor, told the press.

He said that the state should remain the owner of only a few companies of national importance.

The press were curious whether this meant that he would support a motion by the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) that the future of the companies that had been removed from the list of strategic companies should be discussed by Parliament.

"For example, the Institute of Immunology is not classified as a strategic firm. It is seriously ill now, but it is a strategic firm of importance to national security. Things are not sorted in order of importance and that's why I say that such decisions must be returned to Parliament because the government should not be making such decisions on its own," Lovrinovic said.
