Nothing contentious in hiring branch office heads, says caretaker minister

Minister of Labour and Pension Systems Nada Sikic (HDZ) on Thursday said in Dubrovnik that there wasn't anything contentious for the caretaker government to advertise vacancies for 22 branch office heads in the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ).

"That is not in contradiction to the powers this government has. The last government during its caretaker phase employed 700 people. I don't see what the problem is, we have to work. HZZ has made a different principle of approach to the unemployed, anyone who was an office head in these institutions had the opportunity to apply for the vacancies and if they show that they are interested in implementing foreseen policies, they can be re-appointed," Sikic said.

Sikic was conducting a working visit to Dubrovnik where she met with Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavic and discussed employment incentives for that county.

"The unemployment rate in the City of Dubrovnik is low but the rest of the county has a much higher rate and we wish to reduce that with the ministry. We spoke about professional training, the problem of the retirement age being raised to 67 and the veterans' population and early retirement as well as the premature deaths of that population," Dobroslavic said.

Sikic confirmed that the unemployment rate was low in Dubrovnik but that it was high in the rest of the county.
