Official says SDP coalition has collected signatures of 67 MPs so far

Deputy Prime Minister of the caretaker government, Social Democrat (SDP) Branko Grcic, on Thursday confirmed media reports that the SDP-led coalition "Croatia is Growing" had to date collected 67 signatures of newly elected parliamentary deputies and would present those signatures at consultations with President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on the candidate for prime minister-designate on Thursday afternoon.

"What you have read in media is true, at this moment we have 67 sigfnatures. Surprises are always possible, but they do not happen frequently," Grcic told the press just before the government's emeting in Zagreb on Thursday morning.

Asked about his expecations of the consultations which the president would hold with parliamentary parties and MPs, Grcic said they were "part of the process that keeps going on."

The negotiations with Bridge (Most) are going on, he said.

The strongest Opposition party -- the Croatian Democratic  Union (HDZ ) and its Patriotic Coalition -- won 59 seats in the 151-seat parliament, while the SDP and its partners in the Croatia is Growing coalition won 56 seats, In the parliamentary elections on November 8, Bridge won 19 seats.  Both the SDP-led coalition and the HDZ-led coalition are short of the 76 needed for a parliamentary majority.
