Ombudswoman asks police about incident outside Roma kindergarten

The Office of the Human Rights Ombudswoman has requested the police to inform her about steps they have taken in an investigation into the explosion of a hand grenade thrown in early hours of Monday into the yard of a private building housing a Roma kindergarten in the Pescenica residential area in Zagreb.

There were no injuries, however, doors, windows and a wall of the house as well as four parked cars in the yard were damaged in the blast that happened at 0120 am on Monday.

The Office of the Ombudswoman stated on Tuesday that it was crucial to establish whether this was an ethnically motivated attack or whether there were other motives behind the incident.

Activists of the Roma association that runs the kindergarten said that they had never received any threats and underscore that they have been well accepted by the neighbours.

The police reported on Monday that a hand grenade had been thrown into the yard of a private building in which a Roma kindergarten is situated. An on-site investigation was conducted.
