Opposition chief says government lacks concept

The president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zoran Milanovic, said on Saturday that the incumbent government had no clear concept of what it wanted to do, but declined to speculate what would happen with the government, saying that neither Croatia nor any other similar European country ever before had that form of a coalition.

"The problem of this government is that it lacks a clear concept, what they want and how they want it to be done. They are not making decisions. It isn't a problem when people are arguing, it is important for the process to continue, but in Croatia the process is on hold, nothing is happening," Milanovic told the press after a meeting of the SDP head committee.

Asked about the arrest of the former police official Zeljko Dolacki and claims from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) that Dolacki is a member of the staff of the former SDP Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic, Milanovic said he did not know this, adding however that according to his information, Dolacki had been a member of the police force for the past 30 years.

"The HDZ president, who has been re-elected as the only candidate running for the post, is a person who had infiltrated the police as a fake police officer in the 1990s. People like that are meddling into the security and repressive system their whole life.... And the person you have mentioned, if he is responsible for the things he is accused of, then he is in for big trouble," Milanovic said.

Commenting on the announced privatisation of strategic state-owned companies, Milanovic said that sometimes privatisation was a threat and sometimes it was an opportunity. "However, whenever the HDZ is in the government, privatisation is always a threat," he stressed.
