Opposition HNS won't vote for budget proposal

The Croatian People's Party (HNS) will not support the draft budget for 2016 as this Opposition party believes that the budget proposal is unambitious and indicates that the current government will not implement reforms, HNS leaders told a news conference in Zagreb on Monday.

HNS leader Vesna Pusic criticised the budget proposal as a document without any indications of possible reforms.

She warns that the draft also envisages the reduction of outlays for the economy and education, which HNS holds as two crucial items.

In this context, Pusic claims that outlays for secondary school students' transportation, textbooks and research are drastically cut.

"This is a negative birth rate policy. This government does not plan to invest in our future," she said.

The HNS chief also assessed the current political climate as deteriorating.

As for economic projections, HNS Vice-President Ivan Vrdoljak, a former economy minister, said that the current government projects annual rises in exports of 5% until 2018, while, he claimed, during the term of the former government exports increased 7.3% in 2014 and over 9% in 2015.
