Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic on Wednesday dismissed as lies articles in the Jutarnji List daily on his and his family's vacation at the expense of the state budget, and said that the purpose of these attacks was to prevent him from involvement in the campaign for the forthcoming snap parliamentary election.
Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting, Oreskovic said that he had "received a message" two weeks ago that he and his family would be exposed to attacks if he engaged himself in the election campaign.
"I can see in the Jutarnji List daily that the campaign has started. All this is a lie. I didn't know, until I read it in the newspapers today that I would spend two weeks on (the island of) Brijuni."
The Jutarnji List daily on Wednesday claimed that Oreskovic and his family would spend two weeks on the island in the second half of July. It also claimed that Mrs. Oreskovic and two of their four children were currently staying in the Kostabella Villa in Rijeka at the state budget expense.
"These are lies and this is sad," Oreskovic said.
