Oreskovic: I won't step down and will respond to accusations in the Sabor

Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Friday that he would not step down as demanded by Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko because that would mean admitting being at fault and that instead, he would defend his honour against false accusations before the parliament.

"I cannot accept Karamarko's call that I and Deputy Prime Minister Bozo Petrov resign because that would mean that I have admitted my guilt. The accusations are serious and false and I will defend myself in the Sabor. I will go there for the sake of my honour and defend myself from false accusations," Oreskovic told reporters in the government building.

He underscored that the situation would be resolved in parliament. "The Sabor will decide whether there will be an election or not," he added.

Oreskovic hopes that parliament will adopt a decision that will offer an opportunity for the current government to continue functioning and he is convinced that the government can do so.

He is convinced that things would have been different had there been communication between him and Karamarko from the beginning.

Oreskovic also refuted accusations that he had tried to politicise the Security-Intelligence Agency, calling them a spin.
