Oreskovic says government didn't make any concession to Serbia

Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Wednesday the government did not make any concession to Serbia regarding the opening of Chapters 23 and 24, because conditions that Serbia needs to meet in its European Union entry talks are very transparent.

"The government made no concession to Serbia regarding the opening of negotiations on Chapters 23 and 24. Conditions that Serbia must meet are very transparent and we believe the country will meet them, if it wants to join the EU," Oreskovic told reporters.

He reiterated that one of the main conditions was abolishing the Serbian law on universal jurisdiction over all war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, adding that he expected this issue to be resolved.

Underscoring that Croatian war veterans had been concerned about this law, Oreskovic said he and two of his ministers met with veteran representatives on Monday. He also recalled that the government set up a commission for monitoring the implementation of transitional benchmarks in Chapters 23 and 24 from Serbia's EU entry talks.

"We are confident that Serbia will meet all conditions of the European Union to become its member. It is in everyone's interest that not only Serbia, but Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries from the region enter the EU," Oreskovic said.
