Petrov: It is time for a different Croatia

Deputy Prime Minister Bozo Petrov on Saturday commented on his Facebook account an incident caused by Croatian hooligans at a Euro 2016 match between Croatia and the Czech Republic, played in France on Friday, saying that a fight was being waged in almost every segment of society in Croatia

"It is time for a different Croatia," said Petrov, commending in that context the conduct of the captain of Croatia's national team, Darijo Srna.

"It is time for a Croatia in which anyone's interest hooliganism, including that of the highest state officials, political and social power-wielders, will be stopped. It is time for a Croatia in which any thug will be stopped and isolated. It is time for a Croatia in which citizens will not be robbed either through state institutions or in the street."

"That is why we call on all who want and dream of such a Croatia to wake up and join us in a fight that will justly deal with both the causes and the consequences," Petrov wrote on his Facebook account.

Croatia's Euro 2016 match against the Czech Republic, which ended in a draw (2-2) on Friday afternoon, was marked by an incident caused by Croatian fans. Hooligans in the section housing Croatia fans threw a few flares on the pitch and a scuffle erupted among the troublemakers in the dying minutes of the game that Croatia were leading 2-1. The match was held up for several minutes.
