Petrov says Milanovic's offer missing the point

The leader of the Bridge party, Bozo Petrov, said on Friday that the most important thing to the party was implementing reforms rather than accepting offers of office, adding that Social Democratic Party (SDP) president Zoran Milanovic's offer to him to accept the position of parliament speaker and support the SDP-led Croatia Is Growing coalition in forming the new government missed the point.

"It seems to us that we are still speaking a different language because the most important thing to Bridge is implementing reforms and reaching a consensus on them, rather than accepting offers related to office. Still, we hope this is a step towards what Bridge has been advocating from the start, and that is a reformist government and a consensus on changes that are crucial for Croatia's recovery," Petrov said, according to a press release from the party.

He reiterated the party's position since the start of the negotiations on the new government - agreeing reforms and the pace of their implementation first, and only then discussing positions in the government and parliament.

"We did our part of the job. We presented the platform and the reforms and now it's up to the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) and the SDP. We are waiting for their official positions in writing. A decision on any moves by Bridge in the days ahead will be made by the party's members of parliament and National Council together, and not by one person. That's why I think that Zoran Milanovic's offer is missing the point," Petrov said.
