Petrov says offer that he be PM-designate to be discussed tonight

Bridge party president Bozo Petrov said on Friday that tonight's meeting with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) would discuss an offer that he be the prime minister-designate.

Asked by the press before a meeting of the Bridge National Council if he would accept the offer, he said, "It will be discussed at the meeting among other things."

Bridge MP Robert Podolnjak said the three parties agreed at a meeting in the afternoon that they would not rush into key territorial reforms. "The three sides agree that by the end of next year, about this time, we will have defined strategies for regional development, public administration and territorial reforms and that, based on those strategies, we will embark on a process which should be finished by the end of this parliament's term in office."

Podolnjak said representatives of the HDZ- and SDP-led coalitions today virtually initialled in principle a document on local and regional government reform, saying this and other documents would soon be presented. "Probably early next week."

He said he hoped the key political matters would be agreed before the coming holidays.

SDP president Zoran Milanovic will attend the meeting with HDZ leader Tomislav Karamarko and Petrov in Zagreb at 7 pm, the SDP said, although he said in Brussels earlier today that he would not go to the meeting but SDP representatives.

The meeting will discuss nominees for prime minister-designate and other offices, including in parliament.
