Petrov: We'll keep changing system tailored by HDZ and SDP

Leader of the Bridge party Bozo Petrov on Tuesday said in Osijek that in the past period Bridge had endeavoured to change "malignant duopoly" tailored by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), two major political parties.

Promising voters that Bridge would continue to change this. Petrov underscored that that system  was mired in corruption and clientelism.

Presenting Bridge's platform for the September snap election, Petrov said that it was never Bridge's ultimate aim to win the election but rather to help the country and its citizens.

We wish to establish conditions in which, all areas of Croatia will develop equally, he underscored.

Speaking about the party's economic plank, Marinko Skare said that Bridge supported policies that would relieve tax burdens on labour and capital along with keeping the current rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) until a sufficient rate of economic growth is achieved.

The party is for changing the current economic structure and for debts for citizens and companies to be re-scheduled, Skare added.

He assessed that tax breaks would lead to a growth in personal consumption and investment which would create conditions for increasing exports and decreasing imports.

Dean Sinkovic presented some other measures that Bridge would propose such as the restructuring the current system of employment, a rise in the non-taxable amount of income by HRK 100 each year, redefine tax brackets which means abolishing the tax bracket of 40% and the introduction of a 50% tax rate for incomes of HRK 100,000 or more.

Presenting Bridge's agriculture platform, Assistant Agriculture Minister Krunoslav Karalic said that the party advocates the adoption of a law to ban unfair trading practise in food store chains, subsidising production and the adoption of a farmland act that would decentralise the system and enable greater rights and authorities for local government units.
