Plenkovic and Petrov satisfied with first round of talks

The leaders of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Bridge party, Andrej Plenkovic and Bozo Petrov respectively, said on Tuesday that they were satisfied with the first round of their talks on forming the new government.

Plenkovic said that Croatia did not have time to wait too long, while Petrov said that this was only the beginning and pledge of their future cooperation.

"The purpose of today's talks has been to explain the seven points which Bridge presented before the election. We have agreed that our experts will exchange opinions on certain aspects of those issues in the coming days, either in the form of draft bills or as explanations of issues that require somewhat broader consultations," Plenkovic told the press after almost four hours of talks at the HDZ headquarters.

Petrov described the atmosphere at the meeting as positive and constructive.

"The things we stated about ten days ago, for which we demanded guarantees, they were the only things we discussed. This is the beginning, a small pledge of our future cooperation. We need to prepare a quality programme for the future government and define our goals for the next four years, and that's what we fully agree on, that's the next step and the next stage," Petrov said.

The next meeting was scheduled for 3pm on Monday at the HDZ head office.
