Plenkovic: HDZ didn't lobby to defer admission of Vucic's party to the EPP

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic on Tuesday refuted speculation that the HDZ had "lobbied" to have the admission of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), led by Serbia's Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, to the European Peoples' Party (EPP) deferred due to his party's interests and success at Sunday's parliamentary election.

"The HDZ did not lobby for that decision, that was a decision made by the EPP Presidency," Plenkovic told reporters who questioned whether the HDZ had lobbied for such a decision in light of the party's election campaign.

Plenkovic added that he had received news of the decision yesterday and announced that EPP leader Joseph Daul would be attending the HDZ's final election rally and that reporters could ask Daul directly about the matter.

The decision to defer admitting the SNS as an associate member of the EPP to November was made out of political reasons, the EPP said on Tuesday.

Pursuant to a proposal by the EPP Presidency, voting at the EPP political assembly on Tuesday concerning the admission of the SNS as an associate member has been postponed for November, the EPP informed Hina.
