Plenkovic: PM-designate decides about gov't make-up

Commenting on Croatian Serb official Milorad Pupovac's statement that his SDSS party would not support a government that would include Zlatko Hasanbegovic, Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic said on Friday that, as always, the Prime Minister-designate would decide on government ministers and the government make-up.

"... Once President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic gives the Prime Minister-designate the mandate to form the government, he will decide on the ministers and the government's make-up. It was so before, it will be so this time too," Plenkovic said outside the HDZ's offices when asked by reporters to comment on Pupovac's statement for the N1 television, in which he announced the possibility that representatives of ethnic minorities could help form the ruling majority, but also underlined that the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) would definitely not support a government that would include the outgoing Culture Minister Zlatko Hasanbegovic of the HDZ.

Hasanbegovic responded on Thursday by saying that Pupovac would not be the one to decide on the composition of the new government and that Plenkovic would have a firm parliamentary majority, with our without the three SDSS MPs.

Plenkovic's meeting with representatives of ethnic minorities elected to the parliament in the September 11 election was scheduled for Friday morning.

He said that he expected a good meeting at which he would inform minority MPs of how he intended to form a stable parliamentary majority and demonstrate "respect for the protection of minority rights, as envisaged by the Croatian Constitution, constitutional and other laws", as well as become acquainted with the minority platform for talks on government formation.
