Plenkovic ready to offer Petrov post of First Deputy PM

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic, poised to become Croatia's new Prime Minister, said on Wednesday that he saw no problem in offering the position of First Deputy Prime Minister to Bozo Petrov, the leader of the Bridge reformist party.

The HDZ , the relative winner of the recent early parliamentary election with 61 seats in the 151-seat legislature, is conducting talks  on a new cabinet with Bridge which gained 13 seats.

"There is the Law on Government. The Prime Minister can appoint somebody as First Deputy Prime Minister. There is no problem," Plenkovic told reporters on Wednesday morning on arriving at the HDZ headquarters.

He was commenting on media reports that Petrov seemed dissatisfied with the idea that the next cabinet might have four deputy premiers.

Asked by the press about the postponement of talks with the eight elected parliamentary representatives of ethnic minorities, the HDZ chief said that the negotiations were being held every day and that today talks with the minority representatives were being held at a secret location.
