Plenkovic says expects intensive negotiations with Bridge this week

The leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Andrej Plenkovic, said on Sunday that negotiations with partners from the Bridge party would continue on Monday and that he expected an intensive course of talks in the week to come.

"I expect an agreement to be reached. We have approached the negotiations in good faith and transparently, with Bridge as a partner that has 13 seats in the parliament, and I expect an intensive course of talks this week," Plenkovic told Nova TV in Zagreb.

Asked if newspaper reports that the HDZ had offered Bridge five ministerial posts and the post of a deputy prime minister were true, Plenkovic said that they were not.

"We have discussed a number of options, but we will discuss (the matter) once the entire package is agreed. There is too much speculation, but that's normal in the current situation," Plenkovic said, noting that he expected the future government to function on the basis of trust and partnership.

Asked how important the position of Parliament Speaker was to the HDZ, Plenkovic said that that position was important to everyone, that that topic, too, was being discussed, and that for the HDZ it was very important.

Asked to say if an agreement on a government without Bridge, a minority government or a government consisting of some other partners was possible, he said: "At this stage, we are negotiating with Bridge. And with representatives of the ethnic minorities."
